FAQs
What if my child or I needs emergency services today?
If you are concerned about your child’s safety due to a mental health crisis and you believe that your child is in danger of harming themselves or someone else, please call 911 or seek emergency services.
How can counseling benefit my child?
Finding therapeutic support for your neurodivergent child can be a challenge! Neurodivergent children benefit from therapy to give them a place to learn new skills, try out new skills, explore their social relationships, develop their confidence, grow their self-regulation skills, and develop problem-solving skills. Therapy can also help your child learn to recognize their emotions and manage their behavior more effectively.
What should I expect from my child’s counseling?
Children are intricately connected to their families and as a result, family support plays a large role in effective counseling. Parents should expect to be informed as to their child’s goals and counseling progress, and are usually involved in treatment. Generally, parents attend many of the sessions and I often work with parents and children equally throughout the counseling process. This ensures that parents are very informed as to their child’s progress, get the opportunity to ask questions and bring up concerns, and develop new tools to assist their child. For children especially, changes in self-regulation, relationships, and communication are made within the context of their support system, with family being the most central of that, and family engagement is crucial to successful counseling.
Are you able to work with me or my child if I live in a different state?
I am only licensed in Indiana, which means that I can only provide clinical services in Indiana. This means that any in-person services I offer must be in Indiana, and during telehealth sessions, while you and I will be in different locations, we both must be in the state of Indiana. If you live in a different state and are looking for services, please reach to me as I may know another provider local to you. I am available for some professional speaking and training in other states and virtually.
What about COVID-19?
If you are having symptoms of COVID-19, or you or your child are currently quarantined for COVID-19, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can reschedule your appointment.
Can you prescribe my medication?
Unfortunately, I cannot. You or your child’s medication will need to be managed by a licensed physician.
What if I am not sure if I am neurodivergent, or where I fit in the neurodiversity community?
That is 100% ok! If you would like, we can explore this question together.
Do I have to be neurodivergent to come to your practice?
Everyone is welcome here! I can, and will, work with any concerns that are within my areas of expertise across both counseling and evaluation services.
